Overview

Founded in 1980 as an asphalt paving contractor, Community Asphalt, based in Miami, Florida has since become specialized in general road construction and transportation infrastructure. From its four operation and plant facilities in Miami-Dade, Fort Myers, Vero Beach and West Palm Beach, the company boasts extensive geographic coverage throughout South Florida, focusing on all aspects of transportation infrastructure development, primarily for state and local authorities. Community Asphalt continues to provide traditional paving services which include grading and paving, pavement milling, surveying, excavation, on and off-road hauling, drainage, utilities, base finishing, and highway sweeping. The company also provides engineering, contracting, design and build and finance and more complex PPP contracts services. These projects include parking lots, industrial and retail complexes, road and highway construction, and airport runways.

 

In 2006, Community Asphalt joined OHL North America.

Responsibilities

 

  • Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.
  • Training new crew members.
  • Communicates daily goals to crews and is responsible for ensuring goals are met.
  • Responsible for managing crew personnel, assigns duties to workers and oversees crew activities.
  • Confers with supervisor and reviews schedules, specifications, and priorities to establish daily goals.
  • Calculating the number of trucks required to haul asphalt from the hot plant according to vehicle capacity, traffic conditions, distance from work site, and productivity of drivers.
  • Maintaining time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
  • Maintaining company policy.
  • Handling employee complaints, disciplines employees and makes recommendations for promotions, advancements, hiring, and firing of crew member
  • Recommends measures to improve productions methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance
  • Touring job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules, to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment, measure slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts, and to supervise the job
  • Quality control and inspections
  • Determining and adjusting rates of pay and hours of work for crew members; documenting daily work hours and making recommendations, when necessary- reporting time and timesheets for crew/team members
  • Directing and training the work of 2 or more crew members
  • Communicate man power, materials, and consumables needed
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications
  • Coordinate operations and oversee workers at specific construction sites.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required and minimum 3 years of related asphalt and paving experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to compute rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to keep time and material records.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction and communicate effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills and attributes.
